Meeting Report - 21 October 2013

Another good meeting but unfortunately the attendance was lower than usual caused by illness and travels.

NZ Forensic Imaging Specialist Eddie Fields gave a very interesting illustrated talk on his work which included disaster victim identification, documenting evidence in serious crime scenes. Some of the work was macabre but it just had to be done. Two photographs of the same scene showed how Luminal showed up blood.

The competition was Open with a really imaginative film called "Dunedin Nooks and Crannies" by Gio Angelo. The film explored a little bit of history including the Ward murder and scratchings in the Oamaru stone near the old Moray Place swimming pool. This film came in first.

The second film "Oamaru's Historic Architecture" was by Warren Knox and explored the exterior of many of the older buildings in Oamaru. I was particularly interested in the footage as my Uncle Jack was a builder in Oamaru and he worked on many of the buildings.

Nevill Smith gave us a "Teaser" on his and Rosemary's recent trip to Alaska and the Canadian Rockies. There was very good footage and the rest will be looked forward to.

Andrew Wylie then talked and showed advertising for the FAMM conference to be held at Wollongong in Australia. A well prepared DVD was then shown. Full details are shown on their website.

Finally Gio showed his first couple of short films made 50 years ago on a Eumig 8mm camera. The quality was surprisingly good.
