Midwinter Meeting

It was a full on meeting with a very good attendance.

The commercial competition was won by Nevill Smith with his "Stolen Rum". It was an excellent film, well acted, well scripted, well edited. Remember, the best rum is Stolen Rum!
Second was Gio Angelo's "3 to Go". The film contained well composed special effects and was  quite special advertising the club's film.
Third, pipped on recount was Wilma Deen's "Come on Over". This was an advertisement for Australian travel and was "blooming" good.
Then came Andrew Wylie's "Wynot Carport". If you are looking for a carport see Andrew. How he made a collection of bits and pieces into such a professional job is one of life's little mysteries. And the film was great as well.

Murray Elston had filmed the polar plunge at St Clair. An excellent documentary. My word what some people do for fun.

"Look up" was shown. This film went viral on You-Tube and put forward the message that you might be missing out on something if you keep your eyes on screens.

The main event on our programme was a film made by the then New Zealand National Film Unit for the 1970 World Expo in Japan. It was screened in the New Zealand Auditorium to promote our country.
This was an outstanding production for its time, made to screen through three projectors on a wide cinemascope screen...it was made  just prior to the video graphic age just a few years before  computer technology swept the world when cinema as we used to know it was at its pinnacle. The film brought to life all aspects of New Zealand  scenic beauty, and a provoking summary of New Zealand Life in the late 1960’s in a series of scenes ranging from the quiet serenity of a Summer holiday to racy sequences of the industrial and farming cultures of the time.
There were no references to our Wine industry, only just hatching at that time; and the absence of O.H.S. was evident in the lack of safety equipment as seen today. There is no doubt the editing and photography would have been by a very talented team.

So that was the night. Thanks to the caterers (attendees) , to Robyn for her Mulled Wine and John and Robyn for providing their lounge.
