Another really interesting meeting with speaker Julie Watson tutor at Aoraki Polytechnic speaking on the making of the film 'Bleat'.
This was filmed at Oturehua where the scenery was spectacular Central Otago. The acting was top class and the film had fun with sad overtones.
Julie commented on a number of our films and suggested they could be improved by adding natural sound. She said that sound recordists generally record a 30 second "atmos" track to be added as background. Other recommendations included putting together a sound library including as examples phones, people walking, trucks, going past.
There were two competitions shown.
May Competition (previously postponed due to snow)
1st 2014 Masters Games by Gio Angelo. This film followed a competitor but also included many of the other sports. Good effort Gio.
2nd Norfolk Island by Nevill Smith. The film showed the interesting fabric of the island's history and life on this Australian territory.
There was only one vote between the two films.
July Competition
1st Day 2 Rocky Mountains Rail Journey. Nevill Smith brought the train trip alive with great scenic shots and nice close-ups of the food. Very tasty.
2nd Passing Time in Clyde by Gio Angelo. Clyde has many old stone buildings and Gio recorded many for the future.
3rd Magnificent Maple Glen by Warren Knox. Warren enjoys gardens and brought this southern one to life. He picked the right time of the year when the flowers and grounds were at their best. Well done Warren.
The President and Gio then detailed the upcoming workshop which was to start in August. More information soon.
