February Meeting Report

It was a thoroughly interesting meeting and a ot of ground was covered.
New President Peter Begg outlined his aims and hopes for the ensuing year and the matters were covered in more detail later by Frank Weedon and Gio Angelo.

The competition (Holiday Cup) was won by John Armstrong with a film "Broad Bay". The film was about John and Robyn's favourite beach at the south of Stewart Island. Second was Gio Angelo who produced "I had a Dream". Gio fell asleep and dreamt about flying a Tiger Moth; or was it a dream? Finally Warren Knox explored the south of the South Island and Stewart Island in a film named "Southern Journey".
All were good films and all so different.

Murray Elston spoke and showed four short films - a dog playing in a water hose, a dog being reunited with the owners after a gap of five weeks, a trip to the zoo and traditional cattle at Chillingham Castle.
The films showed the importance of keeping the camera handy in order that such treasures can be recorded.

Andrew Wylie and Nevill Smith spent a day on the Spirit of New Zealand and interviewed a number of the officers and crew. They have a lot of good footage and the aim is to make one or two longer films to record the visit. Some clips were shown to whet members appetites.

Frank Weedon spoke on a proposal to produce a major film possibly called "Dunedin our Beautiful City". This would be gently filmed by a number of members over the next year or so.
He also spent a little time discussing audio and the place of poetry in films.

Andrew Wylie commented on the committee's suggested production of "Dunedin Diary", film clips of events during the year.

Gio Angelo then put forward a plan for comment. The club needed more members and more activities.
There were five suggested ways forward and these are as follows:-
1. School video competition in early 2014
2. Production of a drama video. Need to have actors, producer, director, camerapersons and wardrobe,
3. Produce films for Channel Nine TV
4. Workshops for members and guests
5. Publicity.- need sponsors news for newspapers and need to get our name out there.

All in all an excellent night.
