Meeting Report 24 February 2014

The meeting commenced with a welcome from President Peter Begg and he touched on happenings planned for 2014. Looking for opportunities to have a fun time and to look for more people to enjoy the club with us.

Holiday Cup
Mason Bay by Warren Knox showed the windswept side of Stewart Island. Unfortunately and accident at Kilbride cut his time in this remote and scenic place. Placed 3rd.
Charlies Holiday presented by Gio Angelo showed a tramp who had just a bit of luck. An excellent film made largely in the mists and this film was placed 1st.
On the road to Jasper by Nevill Smith was a scenic introduction to the Canadian Rockies. This excellent film was placed 2nd.
Holiday - Simply the Best by Wilma Deen extolled the holiday possibilities of staying at home provided you lived at Ocean View.  Good effort Wilma a thoroughly worthwhile film.

Workshop
Gio then covered a draft plan for the workshop to be held later in the year.
* Use of compact cameras/phone and to make into full movies or to share with Facebook or YouTube. Mike Davies commented that the future could well lie in this area.
* Special topic such as Editing
This should be advertised on Ch 39 and the Star.
The nights could be on clubnights or special evening and we should spread the word.

The next meeting will be held at Hayward's Point on Sunday afternoon 30 March. A relaxed time with a little filmmaking thrown in. More details nearer to the event but note that car-pooling was planned.

Interview
Andrew Wylie showed an interview shown on Ch 39 involving President Peter and his involvement in "Lark in the Park" run by the Lions. An interesting and worthwhile event which this year helped the Stroke Foundation.

Storage of your masterpieces by using M disks was explained by Andrew. To protect your disks use this newish technology which should be able to be read in 1000 years time.

Mobile Hotspot
John.Armstrong showed how a cheap mobile phone could be made into a "Hotspot" to allow a lap-top to access the internet. As a demonstration a clip from YouTube was shown. (If you want help setting it up please give him a ring.)

Tiger Leaping Gorge
Finally Mike Davies showed a film he had made on a recent trip to Tiger Leaping Gorge. The spectacular film was very well received.

It was an interesting and enjoyable night covering lots of  varied topics.
