Meeting 28 April 2014

It was a rather unpleasant night and attendees were down.
The competition was open, maximum 5 minutes and there were three entries.

"Beach Combers Cottage" by Warren Knox showed off the Knick Knacks collected by a couple living near Bluff. It was a paradise of thingies and a must visit place. 3rd.

"Farewell Carisbrook" by Nevill Smith was a splendid historic film showing the demolition and some archival footage of the House of Pain. 1st.

"The Magic of Steam" by Gio Angelo was a colourful, noisy and steamy film of the Ocean Beach Railway. An excellent film with interesting viewpoints. Interestingly our member Cecil Bachop assisted this railway for many years. 2nd.

Peter Begg then related the history of the song "Blue Smoke Goes Drifting by ......." from the 1940's. With Andrew's help a video complemented the audio.

Gio Angelo discussed the direction the club could head and put up some suggestions for consideration. Watch this space.

John Armstrong (after some technical difficulties) spoke about a painting by Duncan Daroch of Mt Blackburn alias Rotten Tommy which resides in Olveston.. After some detective work he was satisfied that it was a bump on a ridge and not Mt Blackburn nor Rotten Tommy which were further down the valley. The story also involves Miss Theomin. Hopefully there is a film in the making.

Andrew Wylie showed film of the Railway Station taken from two helicopter drones. These machines are getting cheaper and Andrew believes the club could purchase one.

Andrew also showed a small film on a mass storage system using DNA. This could be recovered at any stage in the future. The only problem was the cost but it is likely to come cheaper as time goes by.

The raffle prizes were shared around Andrew Wylie, John Armstrong, Cecil Bachop and Warren Knox.
