September Meeting Report

There was a small turn-out due to the inclement weather but it was a good night anyway.

Murray Elston showed a 2001 film on climbing up to Lake Alta on the Remarkables. Great to see the views I haven't seen for four decades! The film brought out the best of the scenery and typical Central Otago colour.

"Remember to Remember" by Frank Weedon showed glimpses of family history over the years. The camera man filmed from different heights which added to the interest.

"Old Clem" by Peter Begg showed the Navy League training vessel MV Clematis in all it's glory. This 1992 film should be archived as a piece of history.

Finally in this segment Frank showed "The last days of Autumn" featuring his garden and Central Otago. Brilliant colours.

Gio Angelo discussed the "Senior Net" workshop.
Murray showed the film made from the clips called "The Cup that Cheers".
Andrew Wylie and Frank Weedon made a film using the same clips. The differences between the films were subtle and interesting.

Gio said that participants had learned a lot from the process and believed another course should be run next year. There was a general thanks to Gio and his team and the participants as well. Well done.

John Armstrong then showed off his recently purchased camera.
He found the battery life was much higher due to the use of SD cards rather than tape. There was much better stabilisation making the use of a tripod unnecessary in some circumstances. It was lighter, smaller and took excellent photos. The camera also had a three second pre-record feature, wi-fi remote and could play straight on to the TV where it could be edited. It also used face recognition and smile software for taking photos. There were an amazing number of features and the price was $700.

The meeting finished with supper. A good night.
